Designing a new way to run workshops remotely
I designed a new workshop format for UK tech start-up, Joyful (now part of the Access Group) that allowed them to expand operations and consultancy internationally.
The challenge
Joyful had a reputation for delivering high quality, in-person strategy workshops to clients across the UK. As they expanded their operations to Australia and beyond, they needed a way for strategists to collaborate effectively and maintain an exceptional client experience, regardless of location.
My approach
This wasn’t just about re-creating workshops online - it required a fresh approach to consulting. Working with other strategists at Joyful, I reinvented the workshop agenda, focusing on creative ways to integrate new and existing tech, including tools like the company’s automated website builder.
I led research and testing of various software solutions and workshop exercises, ultimately designing a new workshop structure that I piloted with real clients. From there, I collaborated closely with strategists in both the UK and Australia, sharing insights and fine-tuning our methods. Adopting an agile approach, I was able to quickly refine what worked and discard what didn’t, continually enhancing and iterating the client experience.
Key results
Remote strategy workshops took place throughout the UK, Australia and beyond, sometimes with participants joining from multiple locations in one session.
Client feedback was excellent, giving remote sessions an average score of 9 out of 10.
Costs were reduced in Australia operations, as strategists no longer had to regularly travel cross-country to conduct onsite workshops.
